Pulmonary Function testing
What To Expect:
The patient will be asked to blow into a sensor to try to blow out the candles on a computerized birthday cake or blow bricks down on a computerized house. Most patients, especially children, enjoy performing this test. Occasionally, a patient may be asked to run as a part of the spirometry testing so it is important that the patient wear comfortable clothes and shoes, or sneakers.
Allergy Testing
What To Expect:
Most allergy testing is done on the back using the Multi-test method. The sterile Multi-test
plastic applicator is used to apply eight allergy tests at a time
to the patient's back in a painless or nearly painless
process. There is no bleeding at the contact site and blood need not be analyzed. There is a fifteen-minute waiting period to allow reactions to occur. The reactions will consist of hives, which will be measured to determine allergic reaction.
Pre-procedure:
Please avoid taking antihistamines three days prior to the allergy testing as they may prevent us from testing. Some antihistamines may block test results for even longer periods. Claritin, Clarinex, Allergra, Zyrtec, Atarax or Astelin(a nose spray) must be stopped 10 days prior to testing. If you are presently taking beta-blockers such as Inderal, Lopressor,Tenormin,or any high blood pressure medication(s) please notify the appointment scheduling staff.
